Electric Vehicle Charging
Quick 220® Systems will charge your electric vehicle 2 to 5 times faster than 120 volt charging. The actual charging improvement is dependent upon the vehicles charge system and the 120 volt circuits available to you.
Tesla
We recommend the Quick 220® System A220-15D, which will supply 240 volts at 12 amperes from residential 120 volt electrical service. The improvement to your charging rate is best determined from the chart on the Tesla web site [https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-nema-adapters].
The Quick 220® system recommendations depend on the manufacturing date of your charge cable.

2. If you don’t have all of the items listed in Step 1, above, here’s how to address it:
Tesla
We recommend the Quick 220® System A220-15D, which will supply 240 volts at 12 amperes from residential 120 volt electrical service. The improvement to your charging rate is best determined from the chart on the Tesla web site [https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-nema-adapters].
• For 120 volt charging, select the charge rate for the “5-15” adapter on the Tesla chart.
• For 240 volt charging with the Quick 220® A220-15D, select the charge rate for the “6-15” adapter on the Tesla chart.
Multiply the two numbers by 10 to simulate a 10 hour charge and compare the difference.
The Quick 220® system recommendations depend on the manufacturing date of your charge cable.
• 2017 Tesla and earlier - Gen 1 Charge Cables were supplied with 2017 and earlier Teslas. These charge cables can be identified by the Gen 1 Adapter at the wall plug end of the cable. Here is a link to the Tesla photo of this adapter: https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-1-nema-adapters Tesla has stopped supplying the NEMA 6-15 and 6-20 in the Gen 1 style. The recommended Quick 220® System comes with a 6-15 adapter to make connection to the Gen 1 charge cable.
o Quick 220® Package P-110 – includes Quick 220® A220-15D and 6-15 Adapter for Gen 1 charge cable
o Extension cords as required. Heavy Duty, 12 gauge wire (Local Hardware Store)
• 2018 and later Teslas - Gen 2 charge cables were introduced late in 2017 and are supplied with current models. They are identified by the adapter at the wall plug end of the cable. Here is a link to the Tesla photo of this adapter: https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-nema-adapters The plug will change depending on the 208-240 volt outlet you are matching. For Tesla models with the Gen 2 charge cable, use the following components:
o Quick 220® 15 Ampere Voltage Converter Model A220-15D
o Gen 2 NEMA Adapter (from Tesla) Select “6-15” from drop down under price
o Extension cords as required. Heavy Duty, 12 gauge wire (Local Hardware Store)
Note: For Gen 2 charge cables, a 40% additional improvement in charge rate may be achieved if there is access to 20 ampere circuits, the Quick 220® system is upgraded to the Model A220-20D, and one purchases the “6-20” Gen 2 NEMA Adapter from Tesla.
EV’s with J-1772 Charge Cables
1. If your charge cable has these characteristics:
• Level 2 rating
• J1772 connection to vehicle
• 240 volts
• 16 amperes maximum
• NEMA 6-20 plug
And you have these outlets available:
• Two 120 V grounded outlets
• On two different 20A circuit breakers
• On different electrical phases
• With NO GFI’s controlling the outlets.
Then the Quick 220® System A220-20D will give you the advertised output of the charge cable.2. If you don’t have all of the items listed in Step 1, above, here’s how to address it:
a. One or both of your circuits are 15 ampere.
i. Obtain a J1772 charge cable that has adjustable ampere setting. Set your charge rate to 12 amperes or less. These are available on line. Examples are:
1. MEGEAR Level 1/2 EV Charger(100-240V,25ft,6/8/10/12/16 Amp Adjustable) NEMA 6-20 Plug
2. ZENCAR EV Charger Level 1/2, J1772, 230V, 16A, NEMA 6-20, 6A 8A 10A 12A 16A
3. LEFANEV EV Charger Level 2 or Level 1 Electric Vehicle Charging Station with Timing, Delay, Multi-Current(6/8/10/13/16A)
4. K.H.O.N.S. EV Charger Level 2 Portable EVSE Electric Vehicle Charging Cable Adjustable Currents 8A/10A/13A/16A, Plug NEMA 6-20 240V EV Charging Cable 25FT, SAE J1772
The EV charge cables listed above are examples, not recommendations. Please check them out carefully to make sure they are suitable for your situation. If other suitable charge cables are found. Please let us know so we can pass on your findings.
b. GFI’s on one or both outlets – The Quick 220® System will trip GFI’s. Non-GFI controlled outlets need to be found to make the Quick 220® System operate.
c. Outlets are on the same electrical phase – To supply 240 volts, the Quick 220® needs to be supplied by 2 out of phase circuits and outlets.
